The success of the first series, which sees Penn Badgley of Gossip Girl fame play Joe Goldberg, a handsome bookshop owner who becomes obsessed with Elizabeth Lail's character Guinevere Beck, became one of the show's most popular debut series, and a second season is now in the works.

Based on Caroline Kepnes's book of the same name, the second season will see Pedretti play an ambitious chef whose looks quickly catch the attention of Joe.

While a synopsis isn't going to be ready anytime soon, if the second book called Hidden Bodies is anything to go by, it will see Joe start his life again in LA as he wrestles with demons from his childhood.

Showrunner Sera Gamble also revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that a lot is in store for Joe's next chapter. "Part of the fun of continuing the story is that the loose ends from Joe's past are still dangling and could come back to him at anytime.

"He is very worried about the fact that Peach Salinger [the cousin of Beck, murdered by Joe in season one]'s family has hired people to investigate her alleged suicide, and there is evidence potentially still at her house from season one.

"If you look at every act of violence that he does in season one, that is potentially something that could come back and bite him. And Dr. Nicky [Beck's therapist] is in prison and he is ardently protesting his innocence."

After being questioned more on possible storylines, she added, "It's too soon to say definitely whether John Stamos [who plays Dr Nicky] will return in season two, but we have been talking a lot about the character and we're excited to keep telling that story."
