Veganism has become a popular diet in recent years, so much so that being a vegan has almost become a trend in itself. But that's not necessarily a bad thing.
By going vegan, not only are you are saving the environment, but your skin is also likely to improve as you eradicate fatty acids and sugars from your meals.
And while some vegans may shove their dietary wokeness down your throat, the majority are merely in love with their planet and want to preserve it rather than destroy it, and Hollywood celebrities have been leading the way with this alternative lifestyle for years.
As verified by PETA, here are some of the most prominent vegans in Hollywood.
1. Ellen Page
The Juno actress made headlines around the world when she came out as gay, and it seems Page is living life to the fullest and doesn't care what people think of her, as she is also a verified vegan.
Speaking of the strange stigma the diet attracts, the actress asked, "Why are vegans made fun of? while the inhuman factory farming process regards animals and the natural world merely as commodities?"
2. Jessica Chastain
The brilliant actress, who most recently starred in Aron Sorkin's Molly's Game, has been a vegetarian for over 15 years, but transitioned to veganism eight years ago and hasn't looked back.
Asked what it was that drew her to the diet, Chastain eloquently said, "I guess it's about trying to live a life where I'm not contributing to the cruelty of the world."
3. Alicia Silverstone
Beleive it or not, Alicia Silverstone was a vegan long before it became a thing. An animal lover from a young age, Silverstone decided to turn vegan way back in 1998, when she was 21.
Owing to the diet's skin-clearing benefits, Silverstone also made the switch to help with her asthma, insomnia, acne, and constipation. After sticking to veganism for all these years, Silverstone told Oprah that not only had those problems been eradicated but that she also looked "less puffy."
4. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande has been a vegan since 2013 and explained to a British newspaper why she adopted the diet.
"I love animals more than I love most people, not kidding. But I am a firm believer in eating a full plant-based, whole food diet that can expand your life length and make you an all-around happier person. It sounds [vegan]-cheesy, but it's true."
5. Ellen DeGeneres
Ellen DeGeneres is one the most influential voices in Hollywood, and with such a significant platform, Ellen drew wide praise from the vegan community when she gave an impassioned explanation on her show as to why she's a vegan.
Citing the documentary Earthlings, the comedian and daytime television personality confessed that she had become accustomed to eating cheeseburgers and steaks simply because they tasted great, and thus chose to ignore the ruthless, arriviste practices of poultry farms that inhumanely kill animals for money untill the documentary finally urged her to eradicate meat entirley.
6. Joaquin Phoenix
Speaking of Earthlings, it was Phoenix who narrated the harrowing documentary, which showed secret footage of sordid farming techniques no major meat manufacturer intended you to see.
Unsurprisingly, Phenoix has been a vegan since the age of three and is responsible for converting the likes of Ellen to the diet.
7. Pamela Anderson
Pamela Anderson has been a vegan for some years and made the news when she campaigned for prison food to go vegan. So passionate was she about the issue, she even offered to serve food to prisoners if the new laws were implemented!
The former 'Baywatch' star wrote a letter through PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and her own Pamela Anderson Foundation to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo urging him to make the menus in the jails across the state meat-free to save money and improve the health of the inmates.
A dedicated vegan and animal rights campaigner, Anderson intended to get in the kitchen and serve up the vegan food to all those incarcerated, which she believed were more nutritious and could help save the state of New York almost $2m.
8. Miley Cyrus
One of Hollywood's most forward-thinking celebrities, Cyrus has been an outspoken supporter of many movements, including gender-fluidity, women's rights, and in recent years, veganism.
The hitmaker even owns a pig and has credited her switch to veganism to the realization that her pet fish was actually quite intelligent. Yes, really.
9. Liam Hemsworth
As the partner of Miley Cyrus, it shouldn't come as a shock that the Australian actor is a vegan himself. However, he credits his time working with Woody Harleson on the set of the Hunger Games as the reason for his conversion to the diet.
"I have a lot of friends who are vegan. Woody Harrelson was actually one of the original reasons I became vegan because he’s been vegan for, I don’t know, 30 years or something," Hemsworth said.
10. Woody Harrelson
As the Aussie hunk just mentioned, Woody Harrelson has been a vegan for a long time as veganism promotes the idea that everyone should learn to live harmoniously.
"It's a message of compassion," he said. "In this world that is spinning madly out of control, we have to realize that we're all related. We have to try to live harmoniouzly.
11. Mayim Bialik
The Big Bang Theory actress holds a Ph.D. in Neuroscience so you can imagine she has her head screwed on when it comes to important issues, and to Bialik, veganism is certainly one of them.
In fact, the actress has even authored her own vegan cookbook and credits Jonathan Safran Foer's book Eating Animals as her primary motive in going vegan.
12. Casey Affleck
The brother of Ben Affleck and an Academy Award-winner, Casey has been vegan for over 15 years and has strong beliefs about his veganism and why others should follow suit.
"Their (meat products) bodies are then turned into food products proven to contribute to heart disease and cancer. To eat that is to eat poison.
Famous for entitling his second studio album, Meat is Murder, the solo artist and former frontman of The Smiths has been a critic of animal cruelty for years but wasn't a vegan until 2013.
Instead, he was a vegetarian before he made the full transition.
The reclusive enigma and musical superstar turned vegan in 2014, which is actually pretty normal for her when you consider that she is the definition of an idiosyncratic artist.
Promoting the cause, the hitmaker has taken to Twitter in the past to list articles all things vegan related.
15. Russell Simmons
Just like Alicia Silverstone, Simmons initially turned to the diet to help him with his health problems. "Well, it started with my yoga practice, and you know, the practice of non-harming, 'ahimsa,'" Simmons revealed when on Today.
"So I became a vegan because [of] compassion [for] the animals ... The vegan diet was being discussed around me all the time, so finally, I just made the choice."
