Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn are one of Hollywood's longest lasting couples and the pair have been together for over 35 years but have known each other for almost 50.
Here we take a look at their enduring romance and their career paths and previous relationships have shaped the couple.
The pair first met on the set of the 1968 film The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, a comedy musical where both actors had very small roles where the two barely exchanged words but a palpable chemistry was still there.
“I was 21 and he was 16,” Hawn told the BBC’s Desert Island Discs in 2012. “I thought he was adorable, but he was much too young.”
The pair then went their separate ways for nearly a decade and a half as their individual careers began to flourish. Goldie went on to become a much bigger star after that encounter and it was only years later, in 1969, that she landed an Oscar for her work in Cactus Flower.
In 1980 she would receive another Oscar nomination for her role in Private Benjamin thus confirming her status as one of the most beloved comic actresses of an era.
Kurt had already made a bit of a name for himself as a child star but had started to set about shedding this image by appearing in more daring pictures and in 1979 he appeared as the legendary Elvis Presley in the biopic Elvis.
He followed this with the cult action hit Escape from New York and then teamed up with director John Carpenter again in the sci-fi, horror flick The Thing. All of this showed his versatility as well as his action chops and made him a bonafide star.
Life takes many twists and turns and the two actors fell into different relationships over the years with Goldie marrying actor and director Gus Trionkis in 1969 before divorcing him in 1976.
10 years after her first marriage, she then tied the knot with Musician and actor Bill Hudson with whom she had two children, Oliver and Kate Hudson, who went on to become very successful actors in their own right. This marriage also did not last though and they divorced in 1982.
Kurt also wed another actor when he married his Elvis co-star Season Hubley. The pair had a child, their son Boston, but the marriage only lasted from 1979 to 1983.
With the two seemingly unlucky in love, they might have thought they'd never find the one but things were soon to look up.
As fate would have it, Kurt and Goldie would meet again in 1983 when the pair both auditioned for roles in the film Swing Shift. A hungover Kurt wanted to compliment Goldie but could not come up with anything better than "You've got a great figure."
Fortunately, this did not put Goldie off and the pair both got roles in the film and began working closely together.
After three weeks on set, Goldie asked Kurt if he could teach her to dance the jitterbug, a skill he already knew but she needed to brush up on for filming. Kurt obliged but they never did dance and instead chatted all night.
They would later go on their first date to a swing club but the night would end calamitously as Kurt had to help Goldie break into her own apartment after she couldn't find her keys and a neighbor called the cops on them.
A Family of Their Own
After being together for three years, the duo welcomed their son into the world, Wyatt. Not only did they have their own family together but their children from previous marriages also accepted them as part of their lives too.
Goldie and Boston developed a very strong bond whilst Kate Hudson has repeatedly said that she views Kurt as her true father figure.
Working Well Together
As well as being a couple in real life, Kurt and Goldie also went on to play a couple in the commercial and critical success that was the 1987 comedy film Overboard.
Their chemistry translated well to screen and they haven't ruled out working together again.
Perhaps because each of them has been married before, despite 35 years of a loving and dedicated relationship, the pair has never married. Kurt said of marriage, “We do not need marriage. We did not very much respect the social norms. But we respect each other … As a result, only 2 percent of our lives were really bad, another 2 percent – so-so, and the other 96 were simply magical!”
Goldie has also spoken of how strong and lasting their bond is that she has said, “What is marriage going to do for us?”
Walk of Fame
Like many Hollywood A-Listers, each star has their own star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame but in a rare and unheard of twist, the p\ir were given a joint ceremony where they both received stars on the same day and next to each other in recognition of their ongoing romance in the crazy world of Hollywood.
In a ceremony filled with emotional speeches and plaudits, Kurt perhaps put their relationship into context best when he said, "Goldie, to you, I owe my wonderful life,” Russell admitted from the podium. “Simply put, Goldie, I cherish you. All of the stars in the sky or the boulevard don’t hold a candle to that. There’s no one else I’d rather be next to than Goldie Hawn.”
Goldie and Kurt are now grandparents with Kate and Oliver Hudson both getting married with Kate marrying Chris Robinson, the frontman for The Black Crowes, on December 31, 2000, and having a son called Ryder Russell Robinson in 2004. The couple later divorced in 2007 and Kate went on to have another son with Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy. Bingham Hawn Bellamy was born on July 9, 2011.
Oliver married Erinn Bartlett in 2006 and they have three children together, their two sons Wilder Brooks (born August 23, 2007) and Bodhi Hawn (born March 19, 2010), and a daughter, Rio Laura (born July 18, 2013).
The couple's acting careers are still ongoing with them both appearing in massive blockbusters this year with Hawn starring alongside comedienne Amy Schumer in Snatched.
Russell appeared as the antagonist in the smash-hit sci-fi Marvel sequel, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
