Sean Combs, does the name ring a bell? Well, you may know him better as the rapper, musician, and producer Puff Daddy or Puffy, P.Diddy, Diddy because every few years he decides to change his name for some reason. Know for hanging around and collaborating with the likes of Notorious B.I.G when he first hit the scene, Combs went by the stage name of Puff Daddy later often opting to be called Puffy for ease right up until 2001.
He then went for his first name change after a trial in which he faced up to 15 years in jail if he had been convicted of gun possession and bribing witnesses following a shooting in a New York nightclub in December 1999. Although he walked away without a conviction, Puff wanted to put that period of his life behind him so became the innovatively named P. Diddy, where he came up with such an original moniker we will never know.
After a few years, this became shortened to Diddy, presumably for practicality reasons, and many of his social media accounts are under this name but now it would appear that the rapper has changed his name yet again. Deciding that his 48th birthday signaled a time for a change, the star took to Instagram to record a video for his fans telling them of his name change.
“I know it’s risky,” he told fans in his announcement video. “It could come off as corny to some people. I decided to change my name again. I’m just not who I am before. I’m something different. So my new name is Love aka Brother Love. I will not be answering to Puffy, Diddy, Puff Daddy, or any of my other monikers.”
His Instagram is still under the name 'diddy' though.
So is this at all necessary? It seems a little flamboyant and just a way to exercise your 'artistic license' when it comes to what people call you but the whole things seems a little far-fetched, just stick to one name man! Mind you, who are we to deny anyone their identity? What are your thought on another name change for the rapper? Let us know in the comments below.
