Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon has finally revealed that Adult Swim's hit animated series has been renewed for an incredible 70 episodes.
For the uninitiated, Rick and Morty is an animated TV show about a deranged scientist and his nervous and slightly dim grandson that skewers pretty much all the science fiction tropes in its path as the pair travel across space and in different dimensions using Rick's insane intelligence.
The show has become something of a cult hit and has really taken off after its first three series, all of which aired in the space of three years. However, the show's creator speculated that series 4 might have to take a backseat due to their being no official word on the show's renewal, but with 70 episodes now lined up, it appears we will be enjoying Rick and Morty's interdimensional adventures for the foreseeable future.
The show's other creator, Justin Roiland even posted a brilliant sketch of the cult characters on Twitter to commemorate the news, with a speech mark pointed to Rick reading, "It's official Morty. 70 more adventures Morty. You and me. 70 more Morty."
The show currently holds a 97 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is now talked about in the same breath as other famous animated shows like Family Guy, The Simpsons and South Park.
The unexpected success of the show has seen it collect 12 awards and nominated for a further fourteen, and with a staggering 70 episodes to work on, it looks more than likely that two of Hollywood's hottest writers will be awarded much more accolades as the show progresses.
Unfortunately, there's still no news on an air date for season 4, but having only been renewed, the show probably won't be hitting our screens until sometime next year.
What are your thoughts on Rick and Morty? Is the show greatly overhyped? Or is it currently the best thing on television?
