But for a lucky few, their quality of life has never been in doubt- especially if they happen to be world-famous. So just when you thought you'd seen it all, we at OMG Lane have scoured the web to find the 20 wealthiest pets.

20. AMERICAN PHAROAH: NET WORTH $4.53 MILLION

As the first Triple Crown winner since 1978, American Pharoah's net worth is unsurprisingly high.

In 2015 alone, Pharaoh earned over $3.37m, thanks largely to his $1.24m Kentucky Derby win. Overall, the beautiful mare's net worth stands at $4.53m.

19. TERRY THE DOG: EARNED $125 ($2,200) PER WEEK

Best known for his starring role in The Wizzard of Oz, Terry is probably the most famous canine in Hollywood history.

As a hipster, Hamilton probably doesn't care too much about his net worth, providing his loyal fans keep giving him the praise he deserves.

Boasting over 500k followers on Instagram, The Washington Post estimates  Hamilton's annual income to be around $15,900 a year.

Crowned with the rather unfortunate accolade of being the world's ugliest dog, Peanut shot to fame soon after and now boasts a worldwide fan club.

While the Colonel died when he was just 2-years-old, his legacy lives on thanks to an array of viral videos which highlighted his menacing stare and crazed fur. 

Earning his owner over $5,000 a year, Colonel Meow's 9-inch locks also got him into the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest recorded cat fur.

Budding cat actor Henri appeared in an array of Youtube videos for over 5 years before he finally caught his break in the critically acclaimed "Henri 2, Paw de Deux." The late Roger Ebert went so far as to call it "the best internet cat video ever made."

Currently, Henri's owners make an estimated $1,000 a week from an exclusive online store dedicated to all things Henri. 


14. KEYBOARD CAT: EARNED $21,100-$175,800 ANNUALLY

Filmed way back in 1984, the Keyboard cat's owner only uploaded the video to Youtube in 2007.

Ever since the clip has been a viral hit and a marketer's dream. The Washington Post even estimated the deceased's net worth to be a staggering $175,800. 

13. PUDSEY: NET WORTH $1.57 MILLION

After wowing millions on Britain's Got Talent, Pudsey would go on to win the competition. International fame soon followed, and as of today, the talented pooch has accumulated an estimated $1.57m. 

12. MARU: EARNS $180,000 ANNUALLY

With two books and a DVD under the box-loving cat's belt, Maru also boasts a $180,000 partnership deal with YouTube as well as a string of lucrative endorsement deals in Japan.

As the world's highest-earning dog model, Bodhi's modeling shots have appeared in an array of esteemed fashion magazines including GQ, Esquire, and Nylon.

Resultantly, Bodhi is earning Derek Zoolander-type money, with an estimated monthly pay cheque of $15,000. 


10. LIL BUB: EARNS $30,000 A YEAR

The amount Lil Bub's owner has made is kept under wraps, but it must be a lot as the owner Mike Bridavsky,  quit his day job and has also donated over $200,000 to various animal charities.

9.  BART THE BEAR: NET WORTH $6 MILLION

Bart the Bear received over $1m for his talents in the Hollywood movie "The Edge". The lovable grizzly's net worth is believed to be around the $6m mark. 

8. BOO: EARNS $1 MILLION ANNUALLY

Perhaps the most adorable fluffball alive, Boo is also a very wealthy pooch thanks to his strong fan base and a string of merchandising deals. It is believed Boo rakes in over $1m a year.

7. PAL: EARNED $4,000 ($51,000) A WEEK

In her prime, the endearing collie- known to many as playing the lovable 'Lassie' on the hit TV show's namesake- earned $4,000 a week on set, which is the equivalent of $51,000 a week in today's money. 

6. RIN TIN TIN: EARNED UP TO $2,000 ($26,000) A WEEK

Rin Tin Tin's story is a rags-to-riches one. Found roaming the countryside by a soldier during World War One, the German Shepard would enjoy an illustrious career in Hollywood starring in a dozen movies for Warner Brothers between the years 1922-1932. 

Rin Tin Tin was so popular among cinema-goers that he was apparently responsible for Warner Brothers staying afloat after they experienced financial troubles. His salary was thought to be around $2,000 a week- $26,000 a week in today's money.   

5. TARA THE HERO CAT: EARNS $55,600-$463,700 ANNUALLY

Tara made headlines across the world when she came to the rescue of her caretaker's child who found himself under attack by a dog. The heroic footage was captured on CCTV and quickly went viral on YouTube.

Ever since the incident. Tara became known as "The Hero Cat." And while Tara's bravery was commended, it appears her courageous act also made her family incredibly wealthy. The Washington Post, for instance, estimated Tara's annual income to be anywhere between $55,600 and $463,7000 a year.


4. CRYSTAL THE MONKEY: EARNED $12,000 PER EPISODE

Having received over $12,000 an episode for "Animal Practice" as well as working in show business for over 20 years, Crystal's overall wealth isn't known, but having starred in movies that have grossed over $1.5bn worldwide, it's safe to say that she isn't short of dough. 

As far as millionaire monkey's go, Crystal is undoubtedly up there with the best.

3. MOOSE: NET WORTH $3.2 MILLION

Moose made a name for himself as "Eddie the dog" in the long-running American sitcom "Fraiser."

So loved was Moose's character, that he received more fan mail than any of human actor on set.  At the time of his passing, Moose's wealth was thought to be around $3.2m. 

2. KEIKO: NET WORTH $36 MILLION

Keiko the Killer Whale not only earned a mammoth $36m for his role in the Free Willy franchise,  but he also won his freedom. Sadly, it wouldn't last long as Keiko would die only a year after being returned to the open ocean.

Grumpy Cat's owner Tabatha Bundesen was working as a server when her brother uploaded a funny picture of her cat onto the popular website Reddit. Less than 48 hours later, Grumpy Cat's signature grumpy pose went viral and in the process, changed its owner's life forever.

Today, Tabatha Bundesen has an estimated $100m net worth, and regularly tours with her disgruntled-looking feline across America. She is also in charge of a plethora of book and merchandising deals for her pet, who boasts an astonishing 1.6m Instagram followers.
