'Narcos' is the true-crime drama on Netflix that has many people hooked on its telling of the lives and downfalls of actual drug lords with the first two seasons focusing on Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar in the 1980s with his Medellin cartel whilst the third moved the attention onto the Cali cartel after Pablo's subsequent demise.
With season 4 now in the works, it has been confirmed that it will relocate much of the setting from South America to Mexico and with this comes new cast members and characters and the showrunners have gone big with the announcements of Hollywood stars Diego Luna and Michael Peña.
Although Pedro Pascal will not be returning, it shows the size and scope that the show has to attract two such stars who are hot property in Hollywood right now after recently starring in Star Wars: Rogue One and Ant-Man respectively but as to the nature of their roles, their backstories have been kept tightly under wraps with many speculating that the pair will be on opposite sides of the law. In addition to the casting announcement, Netflix confirmed that Narcos season 4 is set to premiere in 2018 and that it recently began production in Mexico City.
Luna and Peña have worked together before on the biopic Cesar Chavez, which Luna also directed, and it is thought this will play well in the coming series. It is not quite sure who the narrative focus will be on for this season, as the show acts as a sort of anthology piece, but it is widely thought to be the Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
