British rocker Liam Gallagher believes modern-day DJs like Calvin Harris are bad for music and compared them to accountants.
Never one to mince his words, the infamous rock star and Oasis front man has been busy promoting his first solo album, As You Were, but has also expressed his disdain at others in his industry, and the latest in his firing line appear to be DJs.
Bearing the brunt of most of it was Calvin Harris, the Scottish DJ who Forbes recently estimated to have a net worth of $95m.
When asked whether DJs have become the new rock stars, he told Huck Magazine, " Not in my world, they haven't. What, Calvin fuckin' Harris? The most boring fucking person? Fuck off, mate... I'll tell you what they've become: the new accountants!"
Liam went onto describe music in Calvin's genre as "bland" and full of "careerists", though the fame experienced by the likes of Calvin Harris and Dutch wonder kid Martin Garrix suggests that the demand for electronic music will only increase in the coming years.
Still, musicians like Gallagher have been known to view dance music as second-rate where the artists stand behind their decks and play pre-recorded tunes.
What are your thoughts on Liam's comments? Does he have a point? Or is he an old fogey who can't admit that rock stars like himself are now a thing of the past?
