Last year, Emma Stone deservedly ended up with the Academy Award for Best Lead Actress following her spellbinding performance in La La Land, so with that in mind, and in the lead-up, to 2018's ceremony, we thought we'd help you get reacquainted with one of America's most blossoming actresses.
Here are 10 things you probably never knew about Emma Stone.
1. She dropped out of high school at 15
While Emma Stone may appear like an earnest and polite straight-A student who's good at everything, she actually dropped out of high school in her native Arizona at just 15 to move to Los Angeles and pursue her acting dreams. But her parents were far from pushy stage parents.
In fact, the ambitious 15-year-old managed to convince her parents to make the life-changing move after a well-rehearsed PowerPoint presentation!
Agreeing to the move, Stone initially worked part-time at a dog bakery until she landed a starring role in Superbad and still found time to finish up her high school education thanks to a homeschooling program.
2. She's a computer whizz
Like supermodel Karlie Kloss, Emma Stone is part of a select few female celebrities with an exceptional gift for computing, so much so that Emma even made a tidy income as a kid helping people design websites!
Most impressively, Emma taught herself coding and basic HTML skills in her bedroom after school, so if ever a movie requires a ridiculously hot actress with a penchant for coding then Emma's your girl, Hollywood!
3. Her natural hair color is blonde
The signature flame-haired color of Stone's hair isn't her natural hair color as she is a natural blonde. The reason behind dying her hair came about after continually being typecast in cheerleader-type roles, so Stone's agent suggested she dye her hair to avoid such castings.
Shortly after the change, the 28-year-old secured a part in Superbad.
Talk about good career guidance!
4. Her body didn't take too kindly to her filming a certain sex scene
Shooting sex scenes is certainly one of the more challenging parts of a performer's job, but Emma Stone suffered an embarrassment of a different kind when filming an intimate scene for Easy A. The incident? She inadvertently caused herself an asthma attack!
The scene required Stone to jump up and down on the bed and scream, but this proved strenuous, and she soon required an oxygen mask to bring her breathing to a reasonable level.
In an interview with MTV, the star admitted that she had no idea that she was asthmatic before the attack.
5. Emma isn't her official name
Not only is Emma Stone not a natural redhead, she isn't even called Emma. Confusing, much? To clear things up, Emma is actually Emily according to her birth certificate but had to change her name when registering for the Screen Actors Guild.
But that hasn't stopped her close friends and family members calling her Emily, so if you're a fervent fan of hers, call her Emily if you ever have the good fortune of encountering her.
6. She starred on a reality TV show
It's hard to think of an accomplished performer of Stone's caliber going on a reality show, but when you're a nobody, you'll do anything to get noticed in Tinseltown and Emily, was no exception.
For those who don't already know, the 2004 show was VH1’s In Search of the New Partridge Family! and Emma won the whole thing, which led to being cast as Laurie Partridge.
However, the show was a flop and production soon closed down, but the competition gave Emma some much-needed industry contacts, and by 2007 she had a regular role on the short-lived series Drive.
7. She has many phobias
Though it might be strange to hear Hollywood personalities admit to suffering from shyness, many performers are naturally shy and see their art as an escape from their insecurities, and it seems Stone is another actor who isn't as confident as she may appear. In fact, for most of her life Stone has struggled with anxiety related panic attacks.
With that said, such attacks are spawned from three phobias: needles, being picked up and spiders. However, we can hazard a guess she wasn't complaining when Ryan Gosling lifted her in the air.
8. She was almost cast in Heroes
Remember Heroes? You know, that show with an attractive blonde actress by the name of Hayden Panettiere who's now married to heavyweight boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko?
Anyway, Emma Stone was in the running before ultimately losing out to Hayden, but in the same year was cast in Superbad, so it all worked out swimmingly for Stone.
As for Hayden? She's still a TV actress, with her most prominent role since Heroes coming in Nashville.
9. She's played Ryan Gosling's on-screen girlfriend three times
Ladies' faces the world over will no doubt be turning a raging green once they realize Emma Stone has starred alongside the handsome Canadian actor Ryan Gosling on three separate occasions!
The first role came in the much-loved romantic comedy Crazy Stupid Love before reuniting with the hunk two years later in the poorly-received 2013 movie Gangster Squad. The duo's most significant success came in the Damien Chazelle musical La La Land.
10. She is a member of T-Swift's Squad
Are there any famous and beautiful twenty-somethings who aren't a member of Tay-Tay's squad? Well, unless you're Katy Perry, probably not. It's the ultimate endorsement in Hollywood, after all, though Stone's friendship with the Blank Space hitmaker goes back to 2011, where they fittingly met at 2011's Young Hollywood Awards.
Keeping in touch ever since, the actress totally fangirled on her, and the pair has been good friends ever since, although Stone rarely makes public appearances with Swift, with the actress seemingly less enamored with the crazy world of celebrity as the all-conquering Swift is.
