So y'all remember Kelis right? She came to prominence with her hit single Milkshake and then errr...disappeared a bit off the scene due to label disputes. Well, she's still been making music and putting out music and earlier this year, In June 2017, Kelis joined BBC One's singing contest Pitch Battle and stars as a judge of the competition along with Gareth Malone.
However, to many, she will remain the iconic singer of the line "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard" and it is something that has stuck with the star ever since. Whilst many have postulated that this lyric may actually be an analogy about something other than dairy based beverages, others have taken it far more literally and have open postulated, for some time now, about what exactly Kelis is putting in her milkshake in order to make sure she has a predominantly male gathering in her yard but since she also goes on to sing "I can teach you/But I have to charge" we all thought we would never find out unless we parted with some cash.
However, in a free video posted on the sharing platform Vimeo, the singer revealed what she does actually put in her milkshake and it turns out, it's a lot of Baileys. To be fair, the milkshake (and video for that matter) was created for Baileys on National Chocolate Milkshake Day but since Kelis was trained at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, she does know a thing or two about good eats and so her recipe is probably darn fine, even if it did come about thanks to a sponsorship from Baileys.
Anyway, so the iconic milkshake recipe is as follows:
3 oz Baileys
8 oz ginger beer
4 scoops chocolate ice cream
5 pieces candied ginger
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Chili cinnamon rim
Ginger-infused whipped cream for garnish
1. Put all of the Baileys, ginger beer, chocolate ice cream, candied ginger and cayenne pepper into a blender along with a cup's worth of ice and blend the mixture until smooth.
2. Pour the resulting mixture into a glass with chili-cinnamon-sugar rim (1:1:1).
3. Top with ginger infused whipped cream and a piece of candied ginger.
Once you've created this, presumably it's just a matter of time until boys start coming to the yard, or maybe you have to promote the fact you're making it. We're not sure but be careful with this information because you may not want your yard overrun by men.
This isn't Kelis' first foray into cuisine as she has one cookbook, My Life on a Plate, under her belt and last year opened a pop-up burger restaurant in London in collaboration with burger restaurant LeBun. ELISxLEBUN opened at London’s Leicester House on July 6, 7, 13 and 14 before hitting Standon Calling festival. She also has her own range of sauces called Bounty and Full.
The video doesn't appear to be on Baileys' Vimeo page anymore but it has been embedded onto several sites and can be watched on links like the one that you can click here. Either way, be careful with your milkshake making out there and God bless Kelis for bestowing this information upon us.
