Kanye West's days as a political orchestrator appear to be over after he publicly stated that he is now 'distancing himself' from politics to 'completely focus' on his music.
West explained that he had been 'used' to spread right-wing messages he does not condone. This was in response to the conservative media star Candace Owens, who said that the hip-hop star was responsible for the 'Blexit' merchandise, merchandise which encouraged African-Americans to leave the Democratic Party.
Owens even accompanied Kanye and his reality star wife Kim Kardashian to their recent trip to Uganda, an experience she wrote about on the right-wing news site, Breitbart: "We were overwhelmed with inspiration as soon as we landed in Uganda. There was a real rooted tribal vibe and hora around us," she wrote.
"That feeling of going back to our homeland, being in Africa - the feeling of family and togetherness that we as a people have moved away from - motivated Kanye and inspired what came to be the Blexit design."
However, the hitmaker said that his only involvement was introducing Owens to the person responsible for the logo's design.
"I support creating jobs and opportunities for people who need them the most, I support prison reform, I support common-sense gun laws that will make our world safer," West wrote in a lengthy Twitter rant.
"I support those who risk their lives to serve and protect us and I support holding people who misuse their power accountable. I believe in love and compassion for people seeking asylum and parents who are fighting to protect their children from violence and war.
"I would like to thank my family, loved ones, and community for supporting my ACTUAL beliefs and my vision for a better world.
"I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo and they didn't want their name on it so she used mine. I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it."
In a possible political U-turn, West added, "My eyes are now wide open and now realize I've been used to spread messages I don't believe in. I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative!!!"
Ye's tweets come only weeks after he was filmed hugging President Trump in the Oval Office and showing him a prototype super plane.
Only in Kanye's world, ey?
