Hollywood is full of douchebags. You don't have to live there to know that. In fact, we bet that if you lived there long enough, you'd become a douche yourself. That's how douchey L.A. is. But when you're a fully-fledged star, it must be hard to stay grounded and remain true to yourself without wanting to let everyone know how special you are compared to those who take the bus to work each morning and struggle to make rent.
However, in some cases, these A-grade douches were already rude and obnoxious long before fame came there way, so it's hardly surprising fame made them worse.
Here are 10 obvious examples.
1. Adam Levine
While he isn't as douchey as others on this list, telling fans he doesn't date ugly girls probably isn't the best message to send out to millions of malleable, self-conscious women. In the words of Jezebel journalist Madeline Davies, Levine can often come across as "the human equivalent of testing positive for chlamydia."
2. Chris Brown
Where do we start with this guy?! Despite having all the talents in the world, the hitmaker squandered his career when he punched his then-girlfriend Rihanna in the face. Despite this abhorrent case of domestic abuse, Brown still enjoys success in the music industry and hasn't been blacklisted as some predicted.
What makes the event even more appalling is that Rihanna herself collaborated with the star on future projects. Brown is the douchiest of douches but come on Rihanna, stay away from him!
3. Alex Pettyfer
After gaining the title role of Alex Rider in the global flop, Stormbreaker, Pettyfer clawed his career back with roles alongside Vanessa Hudgens in Beastly but is most noted for his role as "The Kid" in Magic Mike.
Propelling him to his biggest audience yet, Pettyfer held his own against Hollywood heavyweights Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum, but it was his off-screen antics that made filming intolerable for other cast members. According to inside sources, Tatum and Pettyfer could barely see eye to eye by the end of filming owing to the Brit's rudeness, so it was little surprise he wasn't asked back for the follow-up, Magic Mike XXL.
However, the actor at least admitted that the arguments were his fault. Speaking to the American writer Bret Easton Ellis, he said, "Channing Tatum does not like me - and for many reasons, many being my own fault.'
4. Rob Lowe
Rob Lowe may have turned his life around, but the sober thespian is still a major douche. In one interview, he admitted that it's hard for handsome actors like himself to be cast in certain roles.
Anyone who says this is a major douche, so it's little surprise that Lowe makes the list.
5. Christian Bale
Christian Bale may be the best actor of his generation, but his most memorable moment in Hollywood came when a secret recording of him lashing out at a sound engineer on the set of Terminator Salvation was leaked to the press. Showing Bale in his true colors, the Academy Award-winner threatened to have the guy fired and repeatedly shouted obscenities at him.
The mercurial thespian later apologized for his behavior, but that hasn't been the only incident of contervorsey. The star also reportedly punched his own mother!
6. John Mayer
Not all handsome guitar-strumming men are douchebags, but John Mayer undoubtedly is, as he, himself, has admitted. Examples of this include his long conquest of girlfriends, all of whom he has badmouthed and poorly treated.
After his split from Jessica Simpson, he blamed it on her drug use and criticized Jennifer Aniston for having no idea how modern technology works. He was also nicknamed “King Douche” following his split from Katy Perry. But he only has himself to blame. As he crooned in his latest song, he's "pushing 40 in the friend zone" and he can only blame himself for this.
7. Kanye West
Kanye, Kanye, Kanye.... Where do we start with you! Out of all the insane, wacky, unbelievable things he's done, his recent comments about slavery must easily be the most ill-informed, douchiest thing the star has ever said.
For the uninformed TMZ reader, West claimed that slavery was a choice when discussing the plight of black people in America. He's also compared himself to Walt Disney, Steve Jobs and just about any other leading visionary and icon, which is why Kanye is included on our list. What a douche.
8. Russell Crowe
Russell Crowe was famously poked fun of by the South Park creators for "fighting round the world", and according to George Clooney, Crowe's easily provoked nature is genuine. Always one for a brawl, Crowe is prone to public temper tantrums. In one press conference, he stormed out simply because a journalist questioned his acting.
As you may have already guessed, this dude has some serious anger issues, and Clooney claimed that Crowe once lashed out at him without any logical explanation as to why!
9. The Paul brothers
Were do we start with these two vloggers? Perhaps Logan Paul's suicide video might be a good start? Or the number of bullying allegations made against his younger brother? Both are obnoxious, insensitive, and incredibly cringeworthy, but of course, above anything else, they are douchebags.
You only need to watch a vlog of them going to Italy to see why Americans have such a bad rep abroad. Or watch the hilariously bad music video "It's Every Day Bro" to see how shallow and morally repugnant the majority of YouTube stars are. Ugh.
10. Justin Bieber
When photos of a smug-looking Justin Bieber, provided by the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department in Miami, Florida went viral, the world wondered whether the Canadian superstar was on the verge of self-destruction. The arrest came after the teenager was caught drag racing a rented yellow Lamborghini through a thoroughfare. Bieber pleaded guilty and was fined $750 Canadian dollars. But that incident was just a series of many incidents that sparked a national outcry against arguably the world's biggest pop star.
In the same period, Beiber was also pictured spitting on his fans from the plush balcony of a five-star hotel as they lined the streets to catch a glimpse of their idol. Shockingly, TMZ even obtained footage of a young Bieber singing racial obscenities in his song Lonely Girl, replacing the word girl with the n-word and sniggering as he did it.
