Most of us would try to help out a lost animal if it seems like it is friendly and belongs to someone and that is exactly what Tyler Wilson went to do when he spotted a lonely labrador in a gas station that he had pulled into.
Watching the dog roam, it was evident that it wasn't with anyone and Wilson saw that no one else was around and so he approached the animal to see if there was anything he could do. The dog seemed friendly enough, and Wilson was able to get close enough to take a look at the animal's collar, and it was here he got a surprise.
The golden lab was wagging away as he approached and didn't seem too distressed but Wilson thought it best to check just in case. Friendly enough to pose for pictures, the dog was unperturbed by Tyler's presence and let him get a close look at his collar.
It was here Wilson got an unexpected surprise.
Engraved on the tag of the dog were his name, Dew, and an explanation that he was not lost but just liked to roam.
This was obviously a huge relief for Tyler Wilson but also a moment of great comedy as the dog was clearly just a free spirit.
Telling the dog to go home and laughing off the incident, Tyler realized he had seen Dew around the area before, and this got him thinking.
When he got home, he started looking into Dew's history.
It turns out that Dew's roaming has become somewhat commonplace in the local area and a community on Facebook has even been set up to document Dew sightings.
As it turns out, Dew gets up to quite a lot on his travels and, of course, Tyler had to let people know about his interaction with Dew.
After posting about meeting Dew on Twitter, Tyler was contacted by Dew's owners to let him know that he was home safe and sound and napping.
It would seem his adventures had tired him out.
Mandey Lee is Dew's owner and says, “Dew loves to make new friends. Fortunately, Dew is chipped and wears a GPS tracker, so when his sneaky little self gets out and about, we always know where he is! He just likes to spread the love.”
Apparently, he has a soft spot for the local fire department.
Perhaps dreaming of being a fire rescue dog, Dew visits the fire dept. quite regularly and when responding to Tyler, Mandey replied with her tongue firmly in her cheek when she said: “He had a date at the fire department this evening, but he will try to fit you in later this week!”
In another interview, she added: "The firehouse guys just love him, he has even been on rides with them. The ladies on our street will cook extra steak or hamburgers just to save them for when Dew comes by.”
When not off on adventures of his own, Dew lives a pretty normal life with his friend Lilly.
Lilly is somewhat less adventurous than Dew.
Dew also has a caring side to him as one night he approached a crying woman on her porch and stayed with her.
“A lady called us saying Dew was at her house. She lived two streets over. She was on her porch crying and really going through a hard time. Dew had come up on her porch and consoled her. We told her we would come get him if he was bothering her. She said no. He was her angel that night and she would tell him to go home when she went inside. He is such a loving dog.”
So if you are ever in the neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky and see Dew out and about...
