In recent years, laws in the Western world have advanced the rights of gay people. In 2015, the self-proclaimed Land of the Free even granted same-sex couples the right to marry in the landmark civil rights case, Obergefell v. Hodges.
Yet even with progressive laws in place, many still view gay people- or at least gay marriage- with suspicion. However, in the liberal bastion of Hollywood, that's rarely been the case. Instead, gay people working in the industry are proud to attend red carpet events with their partner, and there are probably a few celebrities featured on our list you were totally unaware were even gay.
Here are 18 beautiful examples.
1. Matt Bomer & Simon Halls
The gay heartthrob Matt Bomer is married to the publicist Simon Halls.

2. Wentworth Miller & Luke Macfarlane
When Fox's Prison Break first hit the small screen, it became an immediate success around the world and made Wentworth Miller one of the hottest names in Hollywood. However, it would be years before Miller finally came out as gay.
Speaking at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner In Seattle, Miller admitted that coming to terms with his sexuality wasn't easy, and at 15 he even attempted suicide. “ The first time I tried to kill myself, I was 15," he said, 'I waited until my family went away for the weekend. I was alone in the house, and I swallowed a bottle of pills."
Thankfully, the actor has found liberation in coming out, and he is now in a long-term relationship with Luke Macfarlane.

Now happily married, George Takei and his long-term partner Brad Atman were the first Californian gay couple to get a wedding license after the gay marriage ban was lifted in 2008.
7. Ricky Martin & Ywan Yosef
Latino megastar Ricky Martin is a sex symbol not only for women but for many gay men. However, Martin never came out until 2010 having previously been in a string of relationships with women.

Today, Ricky Martin lives in Los Angeles with his painter husband Ywan Yosef.
8. Ellen Degeneres & Portia De Rossi

I’m so utterly proud that I've had so many people be like, 'Thank you,' and I'm like, 'No, thank you.' It's kind of mutual, full circle.”
