18 Gay Hollywood Couples Who Proved Love Is For Everyone

Celebs February 1, 2018 By Hugo

In recent years, laws in the Western world have advanced the rights of gay people. In 2015, the self-proclaimed Land of the Free even granted same-sex couples the right to marry in the landmark civil rights case, Obergefell v. Hodges.

Yet even with progressive laws in place, many still view gay people- or at least gay marriage- with suspicion. However, in the liberal bastion of Hollywood, that's rarely been the case. Instead, gay people working in the industry are proud to attend red carpet events with their partner, and there are probably a few celebrities featured on our list you were totally unaware were even gay.

Here are 18 beautiful examples.

1. Matt Bomer & Simon Halls

The gay heartthrob Matt Bomer is married to the publicist Simon Halls.

The actor first shot to fame playing conman Neal Caffrey in the enthralling USA Network series White Collar, though has more recently branched into smaller movie roles. A beautiful couple, these two lovebirds have been married since 2011.

2. Wentworth Miller & Luke Macfarlane

When Fox's Prison Break first hit the small screen, it became an immediate success around the world and made Wentworth Miller one of the hottest names in Hollywood. However, it would be years before Miller finally came out as gay.

Speaking at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner In Seattle, Miller admitted that coming to terms with his sexuality wasn't easy, and at 15 he even attempted suicide. “ The first time I tried to kill myself, I was 15," he said, 'I waited until my family went away for the weekend. I was alone in the house, and I swallowed a bottle of pills."

Thankfully, the actor has found liberation in coming out, and he is now in a long-term relationship with Luke Macfarlane.

3. Jim Parsons & Todd Spiewak

The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons is beloved around the world for his portrayal of the socially awkward/highly annoying roommate Sheldon Cooper on the hit series, yet unlike his straight character, Parsons revealed in 2012 that he had been in a relationship with a man for over 12 years.

That man was the lovely Todd Spiewak, who tied the knot wiht Parsons in 2017.

4. Neil Patrick Harris & David Burtka

One of the more ironic names on the list, Harris made a name for himself on CBS's long-running comedy show How I Met Youth Mother, playing womanizer extraordinaire Barney Stinson.

Yet in real life, the Emmy Award-winning actor is married to fellow actor David Burtka.

5. Zachary Quinto & Miles McMillan

However, Takei only revealed to the mainstream media in 2005 that he was gay. An active gay rights supporter, Takei was awarded the Vito Russo Award from the Gay And Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation for his prominent role within the gay activist community.

Now happily married, George Takei and his long-term partner Brad Atman were the first Californian gay couple to get a wedding license after the gay marriage ban was lifted in 2008.

7. Ricky Martin & Ywan Yosef

Latino megastar Ricky Martin is a sex symbol not only for women but for many gay men. However, Martin never came out until 2010 having previously been in a string of relationships with women.

Speaking about his sexuality on his website, Martin said, "These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed."

Today, Ricky Martin lives in Los Angeles with his painter husband Ywan Yosef.

8. Ellen Degeneres & Portia De Rossi

Known for being the spouse of American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, the actress Portia De Rossi is certainly lesser-known to the world, though those familiar with American television might recognize her as the sassy Lindsay Bluth Funke on Arrested Development.

The high-profile pair has been married since 2008 and despite persistent divorce rumors, remain together.

It wasn't until 2013 that Jodie Foster came out publicly, using her acceptance speech at the Golden Globes as a platform.

“I already did my coming out about 1,000 years ago back in the stone age,” Foster said, "those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers, and then gradually and proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met."

Since telling the world of her sexuality, the celebrated actor married her photographer girlfriend Alexandra Hedison in 2014, and they have remained together since.

The Canadian actress introduced herself to Hollywood portraying teen mom-to-be Juno after getting knocked up by Michael Cera's character in the film's namesake. However, Page recently came out at the Thrive Conference.

Addressing the crowd, Page, who wed her partner Emma Portner this month, courageously said: “I'm here today because I am gay. And because maybe I can make a difference.”

As well as starring in Hollywood films, Ellen Page is involved in a show on VICE about living as a gay person around the world called  Gaycation.

Speaking about her new love, Nixon said: “I’ve been with men all my life, and I’d never fallen in love with a woman. But when I did, it didn’t seem so strange. I’m just a woman in love with another woman.” Well said, Miranda!

12. St. Vincent & Cara Delevingne

While Cara Delevingne has been linked with many men over the years, including the One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles, she has always maintained that she is bisexual, and hit back at Vogue when they described her sexual preferences as just a "phase."

While she is no longer with the musician Annie Clark, who is known by her stage name St. Vincent, the couple shared a whirlwind romance from 2015 to 2016, with St.Vincent blaming the craziness of celebrity life on their split.

13. Matt Dallas & Blue Hamilton

Matt Dallas played the title character in the short-lived but popular series Kyle XY as well as the web series Anne & Jake.

One year after the show had ended, he announced his engagement on Twitter to his musician boyfriend, Blue Hamilton. The couple married on July 5th, 2015, and if you're asking us, look absolutely adorable together.

14. Kristen Stewart & Stella Maxwell

Famed for her role as the laconic teenager Bella Swan in the Twilight saga, it initially seemed that Kirsten Stewart was bisexual as she had relationships with both men and women but she recently came out as gay when hosting SNL.

Speaking of why she hadn't come out sooner, Stewart, who famously cheated on her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, said: “Not to diminish the point, because I think that saying things so bluntly is absolutely important, but at the same time, the only reason I haven't ever done that is because there is an ambiguity to that and I wanted things to be really real for me. I’m so utterly proud that I've had so many people be like, 'Thank you,' and I'm like, 'No, thank you.' It's kind of mutual, full circle.”

Now in a long-term relationship with Victoria's Secret model Stella Maxwell, it seems the title of the hottest gay couple in Hollywood could easily be awarded to these two hotties.

15. David Furnish & Sir Elton John

While filmmaker David Furnish has been in a relationship with singer Sir Elton John since 1993, the two only recently tied the knot at a lavish ceremony in 2014.

16. Michael Turchin & Lance Bass

While Justin Timberlake stole the thunder from every other NSYNC member, Lance Bass has somehow managed to stay relevant over the years, though after finding love with Michael Turchin, we're not sure he's too fussed about popularity ratings.
