Actress Ellen Page and dancer and choreographer Emma Portner are married, confirmed one of Page's representatives on Wednesday as Ellen herself posted, “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife. @emmaportner,” on Instagram, sharing a picture of their hands, both wearing wedding bands.
Coming as a surprise to most in the media, very few people were aware the couple were engaged let alone wed, and it is a testament to how private the actress is about her personal life that she managed to keep it under wraps from the prying media, announcing it on her own terms.
Page has become one of the most prominent supporters of LGBTQ+ rights in recent years, since coming out as a gay woman in 2014 when she gave an emotional and empowering speech at the Time To Thrive conference benefitting LGBT youth, saying:
"I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission," Page proudly and defiantly declared. "I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered. And I'm standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain."
Since then she has gone on to host the Vice show Gaycation where she travels around the world to see how homosexuality is treated across the globe and how individuals express their sexuality whilst often living in fear of persecution. Despite this, she has managed to keep details about her own love life fairly well guarded. The show was recently nominated for a Primetime Emmy award.
Emma Portner is a 23-year-old dancer and choreographer from New York, and the pair have been notably a couple in the public eye since around July 2017. The Page-Portner courtship appears to have been a relatively short one: Page had been dating artist Samantha Thomas since 2015 and was last photographed with her January 2017.
Beyond confirmation of the union, Page’s reps had no other details to share. We here at OMG Lane wish them both a very happy marriage.
