While fans of the Netflix anthology series Black Mirror have had almost three months to digest the warped barbarism and killer robot dogs of season 4, the show's creator has confirmed that filming for season 5 is already underway.
Speaking on the red carpet at the Royal Television Society (RTS) awards, a reporter asked Charlie Brooker if season 5 had started filming, and to the delight of the show's fans, he was candid in his reply.
"Season five, we are filming one [episode] at the moment," he said.
"We are about to start filming another one imminently. I'm writing the next one and then it gets a bit more foggy."
While news of season 5 was already confirmed when the streaming giants announced the show's renewal a couple of weeks ago, Brooker's big reveal will no doubt assure viewers that the wait for new episodes won't be as long as other popular shows such as Rick and Morty and Game of Thrones.
The talented writer was then asked which one of the show's episodes was most likely to become a reality: "Probably Nosedive," he said, which explored the idea of society being held together by a rating app, " which is the likeliest thing, it's coming true in China. It's one of the most plausible ones.
"There's an upside to some of them coming true, but with Metalhead there's no upside. Metalhead or Nosedive."
Thankfully, Brooker feels no joy in seeing these dystopian visions play out in real life. "People think we have predicted stuff; I find that unsettling. I hope that's not true, that is a horrible thing."
If you haven't yet watched Black Mirror, we strongly recommend you stream the first 4 seasons and scare yourself silly with the hold technology has on you.
