Celebs May 14, 2018 By Hugo

Being a teenage parent isn't for the fainthearted. Not only are you thrust into adult responsibilities when you are barely one yourself, but you're also likely to have little money and will probably have to rely on others to enhance the baby's upbringing. Of course, if you happen to be a gifted athlete or talented artist, chances are you might have already made more money than most people will in an entire lifetime and thus having a child in your teens doesn't pose the same problems as it would for others.

Here are 15 famous parents who had kids in their teens.

1. Lil Wayne

The much-maligned and idiosyncratic rapper became a dad at the tender age of 16 after a relationship with his first love Antonia Carter, with the couple marrying on Valentine's Day in 2004.

Not that it lasted. The priggish star, who has recently come under the radar for not speaking out about the Black Lives Matter movement, saw his marriage crumble only two years later.

2. Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin is a name that needs little introduction, and her contribution to the music industry is one which is now as esteemed as any other legendary artist, but few know about her earlier life.

In fact, Franklin's road to superstardom, just like contemporary artists like Tina Turner, was fraught with difficulty and mishap, and after giving birth to her first child at 14 and a second the following year, Franklin was a mother of two sons at 15.

3. LeBron James

Unlike Hollywood actors and touring musicians, star athletes are often encouraged to settle and start a family to help maintain their focus and preserve their training regimes as opposed to going out and seeking hedonistic enjoyments.

It's little surprise then that one of the world's most famous athletes became a parent at 19, a kid he shares with his childhood sweetheart and wife, Savannah Brinson.

4. Roseanne Barr

Roseanne Barr's standup career has taken her on an extraordinary journey, but her path to the upper echelons of show business wasn't easy.

Indeed, Barr's pregnancy, which occurred while sectioned in a Utah mental health hospital, led her placing it up for adoption when she was only 18 because of financial hardships.

5. Lamar Odom

The former L.A. Lakers forward's troubles have been well-documented in recent years, with his highly-publicised personal breakdown and the subsequent split from wife Khloe Kardashian seemingly suggesting never-ending hole of doom for Odom.

But that does not indicate that Odom's life was any better before celebrity. In fact, the former NBA star was thrust into parental duties at only 18 when he had a child with ex-girlfriend Liza Morales. Going on to have two more children with Liza, one would sadly die after only six months after suffering from SIDS.

6. Bristol Palin

Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol received national media attention when she gave birth to her first child aged just 17 because Sarah Palin had been promoting abstinence while running for Vice President when news of the pregnancy came to light.

Palin's daughter Bristol then revealed to US Weekly that she had initially kept the pregnancy a secret and hoped that her mother could accept her and her boyfriend's actions.

7. T.I.

The rapper and convicted felon T.I. made news for his condemnation of black celebrities like Kanye West and Steve Harvey openly meeting with President Trump, news that nowadays makes far more headlines than his music does. Not that T.I. is likely concerned. He has a huge family.

Yes, the hitmaker has 7 children, all conceived from the same woman, his wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle, with their first and oldest, Messiah Ya'Majesty Harris, born when the musician was 19-years-old.

8. Anna Nicole Smith

The iconic Playboy model and actress was born and raised in a traditional town in Texas and thus did what was expected when she married high school boyfriend Billy Wayne Smith aged 17.

Almost nine months later, a baby boy called Daniel Wayne Smith followed before they divorced in 1993. Aged 40, Smith sadly died of a drug overdose.

9. Shirley Temple

The all-conquering singer, actor and dancer's teenage years weren't easy. First marrying at 17 and then giving birth to their first child at 19, Temple divorced her film star husband John Agar and 11 days later, married someone else!

It may sound rather naughty and even immoral, but she did prove that it was meant to be as Temple and second husband Charles Alden Black stayed together until his death in 2005.

10. Naomi Judd

Naomi Judd has achieved a lot in her life, and as well as entertaining country music lovers for the best part of four decades, the brazen character's self-belief and strength can arguably be traced back to when she was only 18.

Shockingly, Judd's first child, Wynonna, whom she had at 18, would quickly be without a father following his decision to abandon Naomi shortly after the birth, while her second child, the now famous actress Ashely Judd, was also raised without a father.

11. Niki Taylor

At 19, Niki Taylor was already approaching the peak of her modelling career when she gave birth to twins, Jake and Hunter following a relationship with AFL linebacker Matt Martinez.

Taylor, whose modelling career began at 13 meant her teenage years were far from average, though her 20s were probably less than ideal, with Taylor's marriage ending aged 21 after just two years.

12. Tom Jones

The Welsh crooner has been delighting people for years with soulful ballads about love and all things beautiful, with hits like "Sex Bomb" a mainstay anthem in many clubs throughout the world. However, Jones' earlier life wasn't one which suggested he would go on and sell over 100m records.

In fact, by the age of 17, Jones was living a more modest life in Wales and was already a father after the late love of his life Linda Trenchard, who remained with the singer till her death, gave birth.

13. Fantasia Barrino

American Idol favourite Fantasia Barrino didn't have it easy growing up, and her storyline on the reality show made many viewers cry in disbelief. So brutal was Barrino's life she dropped out of high school when she was only 17 after being raped by one of the students.

Shortly after dropping out, Barrino became romantically involved with a local man though she broke up with him before she gave birth at only 17 to their first child, Zion Quari Barrino.

14. William Shakespeare

Last but by no means least, British playwright and legendary wordsmith William Shakespeare fathered a child at the tender age of 18, a fact few know of, which is surprising for a writer whose works have sold more copies than anyone else.

According to historians, Shakespeare had a shotgun wedding to Anne Hathaway (no, she didn't travel back in time) after she discovered she was pregnant, with some even believing that Hathaway's family pressured the young writer into marrying her following news of her pregnancy.

15. Sofia Vergara

The fiery Columbian bombshell is the highest paid TV actress in Hollywood and is married to the Magic Mike and True Blood actor Joe Manganiello, undoubtedly making them one of Hollywood's hottest couples.

But Sofia's success in Hollywood came later in her life. In fact, she was still in Columbia when she had her first child, Manolo, with high school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez who married her a year later before they divorced aged just 19.

As you can see from the photo above, Manolo, who is now 26, has clearley inherited his mother's good looks!
