After This Family’s Dog Didn’t Stop Barking, Dad Followed Her And Found A Horrifying Scene

OMG May 5, 2017 By Vincent

After this family dog started barking frantically, the father's gut instinct told him something was up and rather than chastising the dog he then followed it to find a horrifying scene.

Living in the state of New South Wales, Australia, the Kenneys are mom Lisa, dad David and their children Lani and Alexander. They also have a pet Staffordshire bull terrier named Leala who is usually very calm and well mannered.

On a visit to visit some friends in nearby Nana Glen in September 2015, the Kenneys let the children roam in the glorious surroundings alongside the adventurous dog, who they've had since 2008, who always comes back to them after a day of playing.

But whilst the older family members were chatting away inside the house they began tp hear the frantic barking of Leala, something uncharacteristic of the laid-back pooch.

Soon she came bursting in with soaking wet fur and acting frantically, this further raised suspicion.

It was only gut instinct that told David to follow the dog rather than chastise it and so as he let the dog outside again it sped off with him in hot pursuit. It was here he was led to a nearby dam and he was beset with an image of pure terror.

With a mixture of disbelief and horror, David saw the body of two-year-old Alexander, floating face down in the water and he instantly retrieved the child and began performing CPR. An ambulance was called but being so remote, it took nearly half an hour for paramedics to arrive.

At the house, the rest of the family and friends were unaware of what was going on until the Ambulance arrived. It was accompanied by an air ambulance and police and it was only then that it started to dawn something terrible may have happened.

The helicopter rushed little Alexander to the Lady Cilento Hospital in Brisbane but the paramedics feared the worst and tried to prepare the parents for it.

And after treatment at the hospital, doctors told David and Lisa that Alexander may not pull through and even if he did, the likelihood of severe brain damage was high.

Naturally, the family was distraught, but after he was brought out of his induced coma, Alexander shocked doctors by recovering amazingly well. He even soon began to breathe on his own and could even speak to his worried parents.

Alexander pulled through the ordeal and came through the other side with no lasting damage. His parents were relieved and doctors a little stunned.

David was praised by doctors for his quick thinking that led to Alexander receiving treatment as fast as they could but he credits another hero for the outcome of the day's events.

Without Leala running back to the house and getting David's attention, who knows how long Alexander would have been in the water.

"Without obviously the dog and my two mates, he would be…” the dad-of-two told The Coffs Coast Advocate, stopping himself as he reflected on the horrific reality of what could have been. “Everything that went along in its little series, what happened was just flawless with maybe a little bit of luck chucked in.”

Well done Leala, what a good doggo you are!
